The Vizag Steel Plant privatisation row is catching everyone's attention due to various reasons. The leaders in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are having a war of words over the issue. The Telangana government is exploring all the possibilities of bidding for the plant and the Andhra Pradesh leaders are raising their objections over this.
Now the issue took an unexpected turn as the process was stopped. As per the media reports, Union Minister of State Faggan Singh Kulaste said the Union government is not going forward with the privatization, and the process was stopped. Saying that the aim is to strengthen the plant, the Minister maintained that the RINL (Rashtriya Ispat Nigam) privatization is not happening.
It is a sudden development that the Union government decided to take a back step. The Minister is in the coastal city of Vizag now. Speaking to the media, he said that the government is not going forward with this and wants to strengthen the plant first. He said that he will talk to the RINL management and the employees' unions.
On the other hand, the Union Minister also reacted to the attempts being made by the Telangana government and the Singareni Collieries Company as nothing but a drama.
While the exact reason behind this is not known many say that the Centre took a back step looking at the criticism. The government in other Telugu state Telangana is fighting against this and wants to take part in the bidding to get the plant.
The BRS, which is in power in Telangana is against the Bharatiya Janata Party and is not leaving any stone unturned to target the saffron party. Earlier IT Minister KTR opposed the idea and asked how can the union government privatize the plant that has so much legacy.
BRS is taking forward the fight and is focusing on participating in the bidding. As the idea is getting criticism from various corners the BJP might have taken a back step. Earlier we heard reports that Rahul Gandhi would be coming to Vizag to support the agitation. So all these factors might have forced the BJP to take the call.
