One interesting development during the times of Corona that has escaped the attention of many people is the re-emergence of the Babudom. One could notice that the ministers are not seen addressing the press meets at the Centre. The job is now left to the IAS and IPS officers. Daily briefings are being held by the civil servants. Similarly, they are now becoming key elements in the Government strategy to contain Corona virus. Prime Minister Modi is now dependent on them.
Meanwhile, realizing the responsibility on them, the IAS officials have brought all their associations together to form an orgaisation called Civil Associations Reach to Support Natural Disasters (CARUNA). This organisation will create a community outreach among the civil servants for better networking for delivering services to the Corona affected. Besides using the government channels, the Babus are also leveraging on their personal contacts, batch affiliations and their professional Whatsapp groups to get the works done on a war-footing.
They are also trying to work out strategies to combat Corona and provide relief to the affected people by using their contacts with IT professionals, industrialists, political leaders, voluntary organisations and also retired civil servants. Both IAS and the IPS have come together to launch this initiative.
