Caste War Begins Over PCC Chief Post

Update: 2019-11-01 09:16 GMT
Humiliating Huzurnagar defeat notwithstanding, the Congress seems to have learnt no lesson. Instead of finding out ways and means to rejuvenate the party and making it fighting fit, a wholly useless caste war is coming up in the party. Instead of asking who would be the next PCC chief, the Congress leaders are asking to which caste the next PCC chief should belong. While a dominant section wants the PCC chief from the Reddy community, another section feels the next PCC chief should be from the BC community.

While Revanth Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy are demanding the PCC chief post for themselves, senior leader V Hanumath Rao is not just opposing it, but also demanding the post for a BC. He feels that this will send the right signals to the BC community, which is now unhappy with the TRS government. But, there is another section in the Congress which feels that senior leader from Brahmin community and former minister D Sridhar Rao is the right choice. Sridhar Rao’s father was the speaker of the Assembly.

Interestingly, despite the massive defeat at Huzurnagar, incumbent PCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy has chosen not to resign his post. He seems to be of the opinion that he will leave the post once a suitable replacement is found. He is waiting for the high command to make the first move on the issue.
