Chennai Becomes Ocean, Hits All Time Record

Once again Chennai people facing the heat of heavy rains. The Tamilnadu capital hit by worst rains in 100 years. Chennai is appearing like a part of the ocean Bay of Bengal with unprecedented rains that crossed a 100-year record. The total rainfall in Chennai was 119.73 cm till midnight breaking the 1918 record of 108.8 cm, which had stood as the highest record. The  death toll in rain-related incidents touched 188.

Normal life came to a standstill and Road, Rail, Air Transport Stalled. Heavy to very heavy rains predicted for 4 more days

The Indian Army has been called in for rescue and relief operation.The govt. has started releasing 20,000 cubic feet per second of water from Chembarambakkam reservoir, the highest volume of outflow in several years. Chief Minister Jayalalithaaa reviewed the situation and deputed ministers to inspect the affected regions. Schools were closed today and will remain shut tomorrow as well.
