The Telangana government led by CM KCR gave a green signal to add 17 castes in the BC list during the Assembly sessions. This decision makes the families of these castes as the beneficiaries for the welfare scheme.
The development came after some media reports claimed that the state government might include the 17 castes in the BC list that were never accorded the reservation.
The government took this call after the state BC Commission came up with the recommendation to include the 17 castes in the list which makes them eligible for the benefits.
Out of the 17 castes, 13 castes were included in Group A of the BC list, while the remaining four castes were added in the Group D category. There are over 9,000 families in these castes combined.
Talking about the same, Mohan Chavan, President of these Castes Society, thanked CM KCR for taking this decision and said they will be grateful to Chief Minister for including the castes in the BC list.
He also lauded the efforts of the BC Commission Chairman and members of the Commission who submitted a detailed report on their living standard.
Well, this decision can be cited as historical as no Chief Minister has accorded reservations to these castes so far. A lion share of the castes falls under the nomadic castes category.
