Cognizant announces Rs.260-crore aid for Chennai flood relief

IT company Cognizant announced huge fund for Chennai flood victims. The American based company on Tuesday announced Rs.260-crore ($40 million) aid for flood relief measures.Of the 165 crores, It announced a contribution of Rs.65 crore towards flood relief steps and another Rs.195 crore as assistance (loans, grants and healthcare assistance).

Cognizant issued a statement and said the Rs.65 crore assistance will be given in different forms such as through contribution to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund; direct grants to NGOs, charitable and relief organisations providing healthcare and other community programmes.

Nearly Rs 195 crore has been set aside to assist with immediate needs, and to take care of long-term needs of its employees and partners. This will be done by the way of Direct grants and loans to employees, as well as other individuals who support Cognizant's Chennai operations Cognizant is one of Chennai's largest employers with more than 60,000 employees and it has 11 offices.
