There is a serious rethink in the ruling YSRCP as to whether the party would be able to contain the descent in the North Andhra region. The party has just lost a prestigious MLC election to the TDP and there is buoyancy in the TDP these days as against the demoralisation in the YSRCP cadre.
The party is worried that issues like the privatisation of the Vizag Steep Plant and Vizag railway zone will boomerang on the party. The YSRCP has clearly failed in convincing the Central Government and the state government will have to face the music on these issues. Similarly, the party has now come to realise that welfare schemes will not be able to see it through in the next elections.
More worrisome for the party is the fact that the tribals in the North Andhra region are clearly moving away from the YSRCP. They are unhappy that the government has not been able to solve their long-pending problems. What more? The issue of giving reservations to the Boyas and Valmikis too has boomeranged on the party.
As a result, the YSRCP leaders from the North Andhra are spending sleepless nights over the way the party is heading in the north Andhra region. To top it all, there is intense groupism within the YSRCP, especially in the North Andhra region. The party leaders want YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to set the house in order at the earliest.
