Delhi Government's Health Department has served letters to six Bollywood stars ordering them to withdraw from Pan Masala Advertisements. The actors who received letters include Shahrukh Khan, Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Govinda, Arbaz Khan and Sunny Leone.
The letter issued by Health Department reads - 'This is to bring to your notice that you are often seen on TV/other medias for advertising the pan masala products. Pan Masalas contain areca nut (Supari) which causes cancer'.
State Government appealed these Celebs not to participate in Pan Masala adverts and stop endorsing any kind of tobacco products. On a finishing note, It requested B-Town Stars to join the anti-tobacco campaign.
Health Ministry opined Tobacco and Pan Masalas cause harm to users physically, emotionally and socially. In India, Nearly 10 lakhs of people die every year because of Tobacco use. About 40 percent of all cancers, 90 percent of oral cancers and 30 percent of TB, Deaths due to BP, Brain Stroke & Other Diseases were due to the use of Tobacco products.
