Microsoft Offered 60,000 Buyouts, But How Many Actually Taking?
While Microsoft has tentatively provided more than 60,000 employees with the opportunity to leave the company on a voluntary basis, the actual outcome is going to be far less.
One of the biggest tech companies in the world, Microsoft has been extensively focussing on aligning with artificial intelligence for the last few years. In accordance with this, they have been reducing the human workforce capital globally.
On that note, the latest developments are suggesting that Microsoft who had recently rolled out a plan to buy out the existing contracts of more than 60,000 employees globally is said to be delivered a shock.
While Microsoft has tentatively provided more than 60,000 employees with the opportunity to leave the company on a voluntary basis, the actual outcome is going to be far less.
It is being reported that Microsoft is estimating that less than 3000 people at the company might take out this buyout option that has been offered to them.
For those wondering, what is the exact purpose of this buyout mechanism it is essentially Microsoft paying their employees to leave the company on a voluntary basis. In return, they will be getting significant package, which will be in with their experience and seniority with the company.
There are several reports that multiple Indian employees Microsoft received packages worth anywhere between ₹10 lakh to ₹1 crore.
However, the problem has been with the fact that less than 5% of the employees who had been offered this voluntary buyout package are in actually interested in leaving the company. The rest of them are willing to wait it out, and actually see how things go with the company from now on.
It is being reported that Microsoft is also contemplating the idea of potential layoff towards the end of the year in order to reduce the headcount. In that case, there is a very good chance that the people who had not taken the buyout option might be given lesser packages to leave the company.
