2023 and 2024 are going to be interesting and intense as far as the elections are concerned in India. General elections in a few states will be held. But out of all the elections, the Lok Sabha is going to be key as the elections can change the political picture in India.
The Lok Sabha polls might be a tough face-off between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the opposition parties. The parties want to see that BJP will form the government at the centre. The likes of KCR, Mamata Banerjee, and Arvind Kejriwal are busy making efforts to defeat the mighty BJP.
Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, three parties faced a big blow as the Election Commission revoked the national party tag of three parties. On the other hand, one party was given the national party tag.
West Bengal's All India Trinamool Congress, Maharashtra's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and the Communist Party of India (CPI) were stripped off their national party status. However, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was recognised as the National Party by the election body.
There are a few guidelines for the parties to get the tag of the national party. As per the rules, the parties have to be recognized as a state party in four states or get around 2 percent votes in Lok Sabha polls. Based on that a few parties lost recognition as national parties while a few parties were given the status.
The Delhi-based Aam Aadmi Party is slowly expanding its base in other states. It is in power in Delhi and Punjab. It had earlier contested in the Goa elections and in the Gujarat elections, AAP tried its luck and opened its account in the strong zone of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
All India Trinamool Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are not contesting the elections in other states. The Communist Party of India (CPI) is not having a big presence in many states and hence it lost the tag.
BJP, Congress, CPI(M), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), National People's Party (NPP), and the AAP are the national parties in India as per the new notification issued by the Election Commission of India.
On the other hand, a few parties lost the tag of the state party. Rashtriya Lok Dal(Uttar Pradesh), BRS(AP), PDA(Manipur), PMK(Puducherry), RSP(West Bengal), and MPC(Mizoram) lost the tag of state parties.
