Naz Foundation submitted a petition in Supreme Court on Article 377 (Gay Sex is a punishable offence irrespective of age). A National Award Winning Filmmaker supports the petition filed by the NGO for Gay Rights seeking quash of the law.
Hansal Mehta opined Section 377 isn't just about homosexuality or giving consent to adults for having sex. 'Even I become a criminal if the law stays on as anybody who had Oral Sex is a criminal according to it. This makes majority of India nothing but criminals,' he told.
The Filmmaker only hopes Supreme Court will offer a favourable verdict as a lot of public in the country are in favour of legalising homosexuality.
Hansal Mehta won National Award in the Best Director category for his movie 'Shahid' (2012).
