Once a citadel of the Congress, Nizamabad has now all but slipped out of the party's hands. The party, which once won the maximum number of seats, is now a poor third. It is now lagging behind the BJP in all respects.
The slipping of the Congress began in 2018 assembly elections, when the party failed to win even a single seat. By Lok Sabha elections next year, the BJP had emerged as the winner, while the TRS came a close second. The Congress had slipped to the third position. Since these elections, Congress stalwarts like Sudarshan Reddy, Madhu Yashki and KR Suresh Reddy fell silent and became inactive. Even DCC chief Manala Mohan Reddy too has gone into a hibernation.
The last straw appears to be the recent Local bodies constituency election in Nizamabad. The party has 143 elected people's representatives in the Congress Party. There was massive cross voting in the Congress. Of the 142, only 29 Congressmen voted for the party. The remaining voted for the TRS. This only means that the Congress is all but finished in the Nizamabad. Now, the BJP has managed to largely keep its flock together. There was minimal cross-voting in the BJP.
All this points out that the the BJP is now emerging as the main challenger to the TRS. The Congress has now slipped to the third position. Will Congress revive itself in Nizamabad anytime soon? Well! Even the Congressmen have doubts about itself.
