University of Hyderabad's Duty Doctor rubbishes the claims of Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani that no doctor was allowed near the body of research scholar Rohith Vemula on the day he took the extreme step.

Dr M Rajshree, the duty doctor at the University of Hyderabad health centre, clarified she herself examined the body of Rohith Vemula on the day of suicide and declared him dead.

The Doctor reveals she received information that a student had attempted suicide in the hostel room at 7.20 pm. She informs Rohith Vemula was lying on a cot when she reached the room and Police arrived 15 minutes after she had gone. She claims to have followed the protocol but Rohith Vemula was dead by that time. 'My role began from 7.30 pm and unaware of what happened before that!,' she says.

Speaking in Lok Sabha, Smriti Irani accused Opposition Parties of seeing a political opportunity in the death of Rohith Vemula. She alleged no other bother to take the research scholar to a doctor.
