Health Minister launches indigenous female condom 'Velvet'

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda has formally launched a completely 'Desi'  condom which was specially made for women. It was the first indigenously developed natural latex-based female condom.
 
The contraceptive named as 'Velvet' and it was launched at the two-day National Family Planning Summit. It was manufactured by HLL Lifecare Ltd (HLL) . JP nadda launching the condom said that it  has the potential to become a game-changer for women through control over their reproductive freedom.
 
 
"The female condom provides complete protection and gives women more control over safe sex. It is all about empowering women." Nadda said while launching the condom.
 
The female condom is designed and developed totally in-house by the scientists of HLL's R&D Centre at Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala). ' Velvet' has been developed and produced by HLL in a world class manufacturing facility with a capacity of 25 million pieces per year.
