Huzurabad Polls To Be Held Only In October?

Update: 2021-08-13 08:42 GMT
It's now increasingly becoming clear that the Huzurabad bypoll may not be held anytime soon. If held, the polls might be held only in mid-October. The election commission gave this indication when it set a deadline of August 30 to receive opinions from the general public and the political parties about holding elections.

This only means that the notification, if released, would only be after September 15. Thus, the election could be held only in the last week of October. The election commission sought the opinions of various governments and political parties on holding assembly elections to Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Punjab and Goa. The election commission has done this in view of the severe indictment of Madras High Court over holding elections during Covid period. It may be recalled that even the Telangana government has expressed its inability to hold MLA quota MLC elections due to Covid situation. Given these, the election commission may take a decision only after September 15.

Now, this means the political parties will have to spend  a lot more money than originally planned. With the kind of high voltage campaign that is on in Huzurabad these days, the political parties and the candidates may have to pool up huge amounts to sustain the political heat.
