Chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy opened up his mouth for the first time after the announcement of division of Andhra Pradesh by Congress High Command. Admitting that he is personally against bifurcation, Kiran said that he signed the representation sent to AICC chief Sonia Gandhi by MLAs and Ministers from Seemandhra opposing Telangana as he felt division would only increase the problems.
Kiran pointed out it was former chief minister late YS Rajasekhar Reddy who encouraged a delegation of 40 MLAs to reach Delhi for demanding the formation of Telangana state during 2000-01, when TRS wasn't even born. "In 2008, TDP supported T-state along with all the other parties and only MIM & CPI were against the statehood. Now tell me, who should be blamed?," he questioned.
Chief minister opined the four-member high power committee constituted by the Centre should address all the issues before taking any step to carve out a new state. He said Congress has just taken a decision on statehood and now it's time for Centre to discuss issues like status of Hyderabad, sharing river waters, revenue, electricity and many more.
Kiran slammed TRS chief KCR for his false claims that one lakh Seemandhra employees have been working illegally in Telangana and stating Telangana would buy 10,000 MW of power from Chattisgarh. "Only 5,620 employees have to go back to Seemandhra based on 610 GO. Chattisgarh is currently generating only 6,130 mw of power. Better not to tell lies to the people," he said, mentioning Telangana will have 50 percent shortage of power if division happens.
