IIT-Delhi's COVID-19 testing Kit Gets A Nod From ICMR

Update: 2020-04-25 07:36 GMT
In the wake of the positive cases in India increasing rapidly, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) researchers of Delhi have developed software to detect the COVID-19 virus which enables the doctor to find out the virus from the patients.

Now the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has approved the COVID-19 testing kits developed by the IIT researchers which will help in conducting the tests at a rather cheap rate.

The good news is that the ICMR confirmed that the testing kit can detect the virus with utmost security. It is believed that the device works on the polymerase chain reaction(PCR).

Earlier the ICMR has halted the COVID-19 tests with the Chinese kits. The researchers who developed this kit has applied for the patent for these testing kits.

"We started working on it by the end of January and got it ready in three months. We wanted to contribute to affordable low-cost diagnostics that could be used in large numbers," V Perumal who works as a professor at IIT-Delhi said.
