India Ranked 81 In Global Corruption Index

In the Transparency International report, India has been ranked as 81st among 180 nations and territories in the global corruption perception index for 2017. This makes the tri-colour nation one of the worst in terms of press freedom and graft in the Asia Pacific Region.

India stood at 79th Position among 176 countries in the global corruption perception index for 2016.

Corruption in the Countries across the world is measured using a scale of 0 to 100. While Zero is for highly corrupt, Hundred is for uncorrupt. India's score remained unchanged at 40 though the ranking increased. In 2015, The score was 38 on the index scale. While New Zealand and Denmark achieved highest score of 89 and 88 respectively, Somalia, South Sudan and Syria settled with lowest scores of 9, 12 & 14 respectively. China scored 41 to obtain 71st rank and Russia got 29 to end at 135th position.

Transparency International lists Philippines, India and Maldives among worst offenders when it comes to corruption, fewer press freedom and journalists murders in the Asia-Pacific region. 15 Journalists working against corruption were murdered in these countries in the past six years.
