Between AP and Telangana, which state will the BJP prefer? This is the question that most political wathers are asking. The BJP is a national party and wants to grow in all the states. But, if the national leadership has to chose between AP and Telangana, the party leadership will go for Telangana and not AP.
The political pundits say that in view of the dispute over the Krishna river water sharing, the BJP will support the Telangana cause. There are strong reasons for this. The BJP is a non-starter in AP and there are no hopes that it would revive itself by 2024. On the other hand, the party has considerable vote bank and has strong cadre in Telangana. It is also trying to emerge as the Number 2 Party in Telangana. So, in the water dispute, the BJP will back the claims of Telangana rather than the AP. The recent Central Government order which asked the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project to stop the work is a pointer in this direction.
The Andhra BJP is silent on the Rayalaseema LIS, where as the Telangana unit is vociferous in opposing it. This is part of a well-planned strategy, say analysts. The idea is to gain sympathy and support of the voters in Telangana.
