Is The Credibility Of Central Agencies Under Danger?

Update: 2021-10-29 05:56 GMT
Earlier there was a belief that the central agencies will solve the cases without utmost accuracy and this is the reason why the sensational cases in the country are handed over to the central agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and Enforcement Directorate. However, things have changed now.

Now the opinion on the central agencies among the public is that the central agencies are a means of targeting those who are against the Central government. Adding fuel to this opinion, political parties like Shiv Sena, TMC, and others have alleged that the Union Government is targeting people with the central agencies.

Seeing Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) as a big example of this, the anti-drug agency that had busted a lot of drug rackets in the industry is now shown in bad light with NCP Minister Nawab Malik leveling serious allegations against NCB Mumbai Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede. The NCB official is now facing a probe.

Such incidents bring the credibility of the central agencies under danger. The agency is facing severe criticism with the politicians and activists questioning its credibility in connection with the case. Making things even worse, Sameer Wankhade and a few officials are facing allegations of demanding Rs 25 crore from Shah Rukh Khan as a bribe to release his son Aryan Khan

The probe to see if the allegations faced by Sameer Wankhade is underway and all eyes are on the probe. If he is proven guilty, he not only loses his job but the credibility of the NCB goes for a toll.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) are at loggerheads with the issue. While the NCP is accusing the saffron party of targeting celebrities with the help of the agencies, BJP hit back and said that the agency is doing its work and nothing more than that.

While hearing a plea, the Supreme Court had quoted CBI as a "caged parrot". The sensational comments came from the Apex Court in 2013 while hearing a case. The Madras Court also said the same this year in a different case. NCB is also accused of misusing power and being the means of political vendetta.
