YSRCP MP from Narsapur Raghuramakrishnam Raju appears to revel in controversies. After Narendra Modi greeted him by addressing him as "Raju Garu", he has met Home Minister Amit Shah and shook hands with him twice. He also met some other ministers , including Thavar Chand Gehlot. By doing this, he has violated the party diktat that no YSRCP MP should meet BJP leaders and ministers alone. The MPs should meet any minister only in the presence of Vijaysai Reddy. On Wednesday, he is likely to meet Thavar Chand Gehlot again along with a delegation of Turpu Kapus.
Sources say that he wants to emerge as the to-go man for his Raju community. After Ashok Gajapathi Raju's defeat in 2019 elections, he is the only MP from the financially powerful and close-knit Raju community. Being in the industry and commercial enterprises, this community wants to be pally with the government at the Centre. Raju is now trying to be the link-man between his community and the Centre. Hence, he is showing a streak of independence and is repeatedly trying to meet the ministers.
Raghuramakrishnam Raju is a former BJP leader and still maintains close links with the BJP, despite being in the YSRCP. Narendra Modi knows him personally well and he perhaps is the only second YSRCP MP besides Vijaysai Reddy whom Modi addresses by name.
