Is the ruling TRS losing its confidence about the 2023 elections? Has it begun doubting itself about the number of seats it can win in the assembly elections? Political analysts feel that the TRS too is realising that its popularity graph is falling rapidly and that it must do something to salvage the situation.
Consider this, on February 1, Chief Minister KCR had said that the TRS is so comfortably placed in the state that it can easily win anything between 95 and 105 seats if elections were held immediately. On September 2 this year, KTR said that two surveys conducted recently have shown that the party would win between 72 and 80 seats out of the 119 seats in the Telangana assembly.
This shows that there is a fall of at least 25 seats in the latest assessment as compared to the February assessment. It only means that the TRS is acutely aware of the falling popularity graph of the party. Sources also say that KCR has already warned several sitting MLAs that they need to work hard and improve their standing in their respective constituencies. He has also warned them that they may not be re-nominated if they did not improve their performance.
The big question, however, is who will get these 25 seats. Will the Congress bag them or will the BJP take them? It also means that the opposition could get up to 47 to 50 seats. Which among the BJP and the Congress will benefit and which will pip past the other contender? This question, they say, will determine the future course of politics in Telangana.
