The Governing Council comprising of three International cricket boards [BCCI, Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Cricket Australia (CA)] on Wednesday announced that Champions League Twenty20 has been scrapped with immediate effect. An official press release has been issued in this regard.
BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur informed the reason behind discontinuation of CLT20 is its failure in garnering the interest of the cricket fans across the World. He termed scrapping CLT20 is a very difficult decision to make as its been operation since the past six seasons and its been a platform for talented cricketers all over the World.
Champions League Twenty20 was launched in the year 2009. Since the First Season, The response for the tourney has been lukewarm and can't be compared with IPL in any way. The viewership kept falling in the next seasons, forcing the partners to mount pressure on BCCI to scrap the tourney.
