'I Advised NTR to Implement Liquor Ban'

Update: 2017-11-21 13:40 GMT
Ahead of 1994 General Elections, Anti-Cheap Liquor Movement was launched in Andhra Pradesh. While extending support to it, TDP promised to impose a ban on liquor if it comes to power. NT Rama Rao implemented complete Liquor Prohibition in United AP after forming the government in 1994. Due to the flaws in the implementation, Liquor had been smuggled from other states and sold in AP during that period. Chandrababu Naidu lifted liquor ban after taking over the reins of the government by citing failure of it.

On Tuesday, Lakshmi Parvathi claims she was the one who advised NTR to implement Liquor Prohibition in the state. 'Taking the situation of the state into consideration, I suggested NTR to opt for liquor ban. He implemented prohibition soon after forming the TDP Government,' she recalled.

Lakshmi Parvathi alleges Chandrababu Naidu has lifted Liquor Prohibition after getting hold of power in August 1995. She objected the move of Telangana Government to establish a wine shop beside her house in Hyderabad. She demanded the Excise Commissioner to shift the wine shop to a far away location.

State Governments have been seeing liquor sales as a huge income source. Implementation of liquor prohibition in any state isn't gonna be easy.
