Left parties feel TDP has backstabbed them in MLC elections

Has the TDP backstabbed the Left-backed PDF in the just concluded teachers' constituency MLC elections? Has it gained votes from the PDF and the Left parties in the Graduates constituency MLC elections, but did not transfer its share of votes to the PDF? In both the teachers' constituencies, the YSRCP has posted impressive victories.

The PDF and the TDP had a tacit understanding under which the PDF would transfer its votes to the TDP in the graduate elections, while the PDF was to gain from the TDP votes in Teachers constituency. As per this agreement, the TDP did not put up candidates in the teachers constituency.

But, when the final votes were counted, it became clear that the TDP gained from the PDF in the three graduate constituency seats and has won them handsomely. However, it did not transfer its votes to the PDF as a result of which the latter had lost both the seats. The PDF leaders and the Left party leaders feel that the TDP has cheated.

Left wing political analysts say that this backstabbing could affect the relations between the TDP and the Left. It could also affect the future contours for the 2024 elections. The Left leaders feel that the TDP needs the support of several parties if it has to defeat the YSRCP in the coming assembly elections.
