The governments imposing taxes for various services and taking action against those who don't pay the taxes is not new and the practice has been followed for ages. However, the authorities are sometimes going over the board while collecting taxes in Andhra Pradesh which is making people get angry at the government.
The issue of people reportedly facing issues with the tax payments was taken to the Andhra Pradesh Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Botsa Satyanarayana. When asked to respond to the issue, the Minister had made some interesting comments.
Asking if collecting taxes was wrong, the Minister asked what was wrong in taking action against those who pay the taxes. This is not a new thing and we have not brought it. We are not the ones to bring such rules. Why did no one question this when the previous government did this, he asked.
Sounding like backing the practice, the Cabinet Minister said that if the taxes were not collected then the local bodies cannot work. What's the issue if we put up a banner asking people to pay the property tax, he asked.
Having said that, Botsa Satyanarayana maintained that the government wants the public to pay the taxes on time and get the authorized tap collections. The government is not aimed at causing issues to the public, he added.
