In a shocking incident Eminent writer and erudite scholar Mm Kalburgi was shot dead in his own house at Dharwad, Karnataka. Dr Kalburgi, the former vice chancellor of Hampi University, answered the doorbell at his home in Dharwad at around 8.40 am when he was shot in the forehead and chest. The attackers had come on a bike to kill the writer and they managed to flee from the spot.
In the recent times Kalburgi had several quarrels with Hindu rightwing groups who opposed his writings and speeches and called them "anti-Hindu."Dr Kalburgi is a Sahitya Academy award winning writer and he known for his controversy remarks on religious and social issues.A special investigation team is formed on the orders of Chief Minister to probe the case.
