Union Minister Sujana Chowdhary opined Special Category Status would cause more damage to Andhra Pradesh rather than addressing the crisis situation. He told Special Status promised by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh neither have tax exemptions or financial assistance.
The Union Minister explained complex procedure and policy-related issues have led to the delay in the announcement of Special Package. He adds, '14th Finance Commission & Niti Aayog recommendations, Discontinuation of Planning Commission has led to this situation. Union Cabinet would approve the Special Package sanctioned for AP at the earliest to guarantee Constitutional validity'.
Sujana Chowdhary told only difference between States with Special Status and those without it would be share in Centrally sponsored schemes. While Special Status States get 90 percent central funding, Other states would receive 60 percent. 'Centre promised to offer additional 30% to Andhra Pradesh. Now, The debate is only about the name, Special Category Status,' he said.
