One of the prime objectives behind demonetization is to wiped out the fake currency in circulation as that's the source of terror funding. Has the Union Government succeeded in putting an end to counterfeit notes?
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) recovered three fake Rs 2,000 denomination notes of high quality from a person in Malda, West Bengal. Umar Faruq, who is also involved in Fake India Currency Notes (FICN) smuggling, was arrested Yesterday for allegedly transporting fake currency notes.
So far, NIA has half a dozen fake currency cases since note ban. Most of the fake currency recovered by them was of poor quality and they were just scanned copies of the original note. But, The fake currency with Umar Faruq is of high quality and security features of the original note have been retained.
Usually, NIA gets involved only if the fake currency is of high quality. Hence, NIA is now probing the source of the high-quality fake currency notes.
