The cleanliness drive carried out by a group of volunteers at Versova beach in Mumbai has been yielding great results. Over 100 Olive Ridley baby turtles hatched on this famous beach on Thursday and Friday. The unexpected guests have brought a big smile on the faces of morning walkers at the beach.

Actually, Olive Ridley baby turtles are a rare species found during warm, tropical currents of Pacific and Indian Oceans. These turtles travel thousands of kilometres and the female ones will return to their nesting sites once in two years to lay eggs. They disappeared from the Versova beach two decades ago due to the pollution. The turtles were spotted first by beach clean-up crusaders at 9.30 pm. Quickly, NGO Vanashakti lodged a complaint seeking probe to find out the truth in the reports.

Maharashtra Forest Officials swung into action soon after the news spread and found many eggshells. They have confirmed Versova beach has become a turtle nesting site again.
