The popular restaurant One8 Commune in Bengaluru, once linked to cricketer Virat Kohli, has been shut down due to unpaid rent and legal issues. The closure came after a court order as the restaurant reportedly failed to clear dues of more than ₹2 crore.
This outlet was opened in December 2023 and quickly became a well-known spot in the city. However, problems started to grow over time. Reports say that the restaurant did not pay rent for nearly six months. Along with rent, there were also pending maintenance charges and revenue share payments. Because of this, the building owner approached the court, which then ordered the restaurant to close until all dues are cleared.
Before this shutdown, Virat Kohli had already cut ties with the restaurant. He removed his brand name from the outlet after several issues came up. These included repeated notices related to safety rules and other compliance problems. There were also concerns about fire safety, which added to the trouble.
The restaurant had received multiple warnings from local authorities for not following proper rules. At one point, a case was filed because the outlet did not provide a proper smoking area, which is required by law. There were also allegations that the restaurant was running without necessary permissions, including a fire safety clearance.
In addition, another case was registered against the outlet for staying open beyond allowed timings. These ongoing problems affected the restaurant’s reputation and business. After Kohli’s exit, customer visits reportedly dropped, leading to financial losses.
With all these issues combined, the situation became difficult to manage. The court finally stepped in and ordered the closure of the restaurant until all pending payments are made.
For now, the Bengaluru branch of One8 Commune will remain shut. Its future depends on whether the management clears the dues and resolves all legal and regulatory problems.
