Over 60 Million Swam Tests Were Conducted In India So Far

The ongoing pandemic is ringing danger bells in India with the widespread virus outbreak day by day. For a week, India has been reporting over 90,000 fresh infections daily.

In the wake of this, the dashboard of the apex medical body in India, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) stated that so far, a mammoth of over 60 million pandemic tests were conducted in the country.

India, which has been carrying out around 10 lakh tests daily to detect fresh Coronavirus infected has conducted as many as 11,36,613 tests in the last 24 days. So far 6,05,65,728 tests have been conducted.

The first swab test was conducted in January at the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune. Back then India has only one NIV laboratory to conduct the swab tests.

Within eight months things escalated rapidly and the laboratories to conducted swab tests were also increased during the time largely. So far over 1700 laboratories, including government and private labs were set up to accommodate the swab testing.

Following the skyrocketing of fresh infections, government bodies like the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) were also roped in to lend a helping hand in connection with the pandemic tests.

Since the last month, the average of the swam tests has increased significantly to nearly one month. Earlier the around half a million tests were carried out across the nation daily.
