SEC Gets Some Boost From High Court

Update: 2021-02-17 02:57 GMT
The Nimmagadda Ramesh-YSRCP battle is far from being over. The SEC still seems to pack power into his punch when it comes to deal with the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh. His latest action shows that he still has some sting in his tail.

In a latest order, he warned against forced withdrawal by the candidates contesting in the municipal elections. He said that there were several complaints that the candidates were being forced to withdraw from the contest. He said this should not be allowed and ordered the returning officer should not accept the withdrawal. He said those facing threats can lodge a complaint with the returning officer and that they would be considered candidates in the election.

In another shot in the arm for the SEC, the High Court of Andhra Pradesh has upheld SEC's decision to videograph the counting process. This has been done in view of the large-scale complaints filed by the political parties. The parties have alleged there were irregularities galore in the counting process.
