Karnataka CM Yediyurappa too had to resign to make way for Basavaraj Patil. Rupani's resignation was unexpected and he gave no inkling of his plans to resign. Sources say that the BJP may opt for a leader form the Patel community. Most probably deputy CM Nitin Patel could be made the new chief minister. Though Mansukh Mandaviya's name is doing the rounds, he is in the key health ministry and Modi may not send him to Gujarat especially amid fears of a third wave.
