Shock to Film Industry: Amma Theatres on the way!

Update: 2014-02-19 09:33 GMT
Tamilnadu chief minister Jayalalithaa's low-cost schemes like Amma Canteens and Amma Mineral Water have become hugely successful in the state. To everyone's surprise, she came up with the idea of Amma Theatres which would be screens Kollywood films in subsidized rates.

Even the Chennai Corporation included Amma Theatres proposal in the tax-free budget (Rs 4,200 crore) presented for the financial year 2014-15. Government sources say, Amma Theatres will give more preference to the screening of low-budget Tamil films and it's the first step to curb the piracy which is killing the Industry.

However, Jayalalithaa has to give a clarity on several aspects here. How much will be the price of the ticket (Probably Rs 10)? Will the state government bear the losses incurred due to subsidy or Film Industry will be forced to handle it?

Already, Tamilnadu Government is charging an Entertainment Tax of 30% from Tamil films. Amma Theatres will only make lives of those people who work on big-ticket films miserable. What's the hidden intention of Jaya?
