Will KCR's Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) dreams vanish into thin air? No⦠it's not just because of KCR's failure to make a splash either in Delhi or in Gujarat or even in Himachal Pradesh. The party did not even give tickets to candidates and did not even support anyone against the BJP. It was clearly a non-starter. But, there is another reason why BRS may not after all come into being.
When the TRS recently applied for a change in the name of the party to BRS, an advert was placed in the media asking the people if anyone had any objection to the renaming. Shockingly for the TRS, Prem Banot, a Warangal resident, claimed that he had already applied for registering a political party with the name Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi in September itself, a month before KCR made this announcement.
He claimed that the proposed name of the TRS closely resembles his party and has hence raised an objection. It remains to be seen if he withdraws his application or goes ahead with it. If he goes ahead, the TRS may not get the name of its choice. It might either take another name or even abandon the whole idea of renaming.
It may be recalled that the YSRCP too had faced a similar problem. A person had already registered a political party with the same name. Jagan had to co opt him into his party to keep the name. Later, he was edged out of the party. Will KCR do something of that sort in Telangana? Or will he get a new name for the party? Let's wait and see how the drama unfolds.
