We have seen how the NTR Health University row became a big sensation in Andhra Pradesh. Saying that YSR brought many people benefiting schemes for people and he is a doctor by profession the YCP government changed the name of the university and named it after YSR.
The controversy even led to a war of words between the ruling and opposition parties. The YCP went ahead with the decision given the supermajority they enjoy in the Assembly house. The bill became an act with Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan giving his nod for the bill.
Now the Andhra Pradesh government paved way for another big controversy by removing the statue of Yogi Vemana, a popular Telugu poet from the University named after him. The University located in the Kadapa district was built in the regime of late YSR.
As the University was named after him, the then government had set up a big statue of the Poet in front of the building. The authorities have now removed the statue of the poet and replaced it with a big statue of YSR.
Adding fuel to the controversy, the YSR statue which was set up is bigger than Yogi Vemana as per the reports. Despite the issue becoming a big controversy, no one knows what is the reason behind this. Yogi Vemana's statue was removed and kept aside.
The students of the university were in shock looking at what happened and asked what is the need to do such things. The students reportedly raised severe objections to the change in the statues inside the campus and they are expected to sit for a protest.
No one has the answer to why the authorities removed the statue all of a sudden. The question of whether Jagan Mohan Reddy has an issue with the Yogi Vemana statue has also been raised. What answer the government gives on the change of the statue is a question many have.
Yogi Vemana University was established in the Kadapa district back in 2006 when YSR was the Chief Minister of the combined Andhra Pradesh. When the establishment was set up it was under Sri Venkateswara University. Later it was made a separate University. It was named after one of the legendary poets who made many valuable contributions to Telugu literature.
