The Supreme Court on Monday expressed strong displeasure against the Centre for aggressively going forward with the construction work of the Central Vista.
The apex court has directed the government that no construction, demolition or felling of trees shall take place for the project. The SC has however permitted the December 10 foundation stone-laying ceremony.
A bench of the top court headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar said that the centre may lay the foundation stone and can carry on paperwork, but no construction or demolition, no cutting down any trees is allowed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone on December 10 for the new Parliament building. Construction of the new establishment was expected to be completed by 2022 at an estimated cost of Rs 971 crore.
