Update: 2023-04-11 16:27 GMT
Who are volunteers and how their appointments are made, the Supreme Court asked the state government. Eenadu newspaper is the defendant in the case. Senior lawyers Mukul Rohatgi, Devadatt Kamat and advocate Mayank Jain replied that they are the activists of the YSRCP. They said that they are working with the political agenda.

It is known that the Ushodaya Publications Pvt Ltd approached the Supreme Court challenging the orders issued by the state government to sanction Rs 200 every month for the Village/ward volunteers and secretariat employees to purchase the Sakshi newspaper. The writ petition filed by Ushodaya in AP Court was transferred to the Delhi Court court. The bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice P. S. Narasimha, and Justice J.B. Pardiwala heard the petition.

The state government issued two different Government Orders last year to pay Rs 200 for the 2.56 lakh volunteers and 1.45 lakh village/ward secretariat employees to buy the newspaper that has expanse circulation. Ushodaya Publications, the publishers of Eenadu, filed a petition in the AP High Court challenging the two orders.

The Ushodaya company took to the notice of the court that despite not mentioning the name of Sakshi newspaper in the orders, Chief Minister, Ministers, and party activists are dubbing Eenadu as yellow media and are campaigning to not read the newspaper. It said that the government indirectly gave orders that volunteers and secretariat employees should purchase the Sakshi newspaper. The High Court refused to give interim orders on this. So the Eenadu newspaper filed a special leave petition with the Supreme Court. The petition was heard on April 10.

The Supreme Court bench reportedly observed that the way the AP High Court dealt with the petition was problematic. Giving this as a reason, the bench said the writ petition will be transferred to the Delhi High Court division bench and it will hear the petition.

CS Vaidyanathan, who appeared for the hearing on the behalf of the AP government raised objections to this. He said that there will be a delay in the case if it is transferred to Delhi High Court as the petition would be heard on April 21st. Mukul Rohatgi said that the writ petition filed by the Ushodaya cannot be heard with the old PIL and hence it is good to transfer the case to Delhi High Court. Saying that a stay will be given on the GO and the following consequences, the bench posted the next hearing on the 17th of April.
