The Supreme Court served notices to the Telangana government for not implementing the health scheme Ayushman Bharat launched by the Centre to provide free access to health care for 40% of people in the country.

The new development came after Telangana BJP senior leader Perala Shekha knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court claiming that the state government is not implementing the scheme.

The notice was sent to Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and the Supreme Court granted two weeks for the government to file a counter-affidavit in this case.

Along with Telangana, three other states were served with notices concerning the Ayushman Bharat Scheme. Delhi, West Bengal, and Odisha governments were also served notices.

Surprisingly, during the Assembly Monsoon sessions, Telangana CM KCR slammed the Ayushman Bharat scheme and said the state received nothing from the Centre.

Addressing the house, KCR said, when compared to the Aarogyasri scheme introduced by former CM of combined AP Late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, the Ayushman Bharat scheme is nothing.

The petitioner sought directives from the Supreme Court to order the government to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the state.
