Six people died and a dozen others were admitted at hospital in Vijayawada after drinking toxic liquor at Swarna Restaurant and Bar recently. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Andhra Pradesh government to investigate the matter.The team has submitted its report today and it squarely blamed Swarna Restaurant and Bar for the tragedy.
Prohibition and Excise commissioner M.K. Meena submitted report to chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu an din the report the commissioner states that the adulteration of liquor took place in the bar itself and not at the breweries.
Police took bar staff and managers into custody. During interrogation, the arrested bar staff reportedly confessed that they mixed some chemical in the liquor served to customers in the bar on Monday. However, they could not name the chemical.
Most of the victims were said to be daily-wage labourers who went to the Swarna Bar at Hotel M in Krishnalanka before going to work. Police have seized the bar and filed cases.
Along with Swarna Bar owner, former MLA Malladi Vishnu's name was included in the list of accused. Vishnu has been added as A9 in the police complaint.
