The biggest worry for the TDP in the upcoming local body elections in Andhra Pradesh, is the spate of defections by the top leaders. Several former MLAs, MPs, ministes, ZPTC, MPTC and PACS chiefs are leaving the party in drones. This is unnerving the top leadership and the grassroots level cadre alike.
In Srikakulam district alone, former Etcherla MLA Meesaa Neelakantham Naidu, former Etcherla MPP Meesala Lakshmi, former ZPTCs Jagannatham Dora, LS Naidu and several others have resigned from the TDP and have joined the YSRCP. Sources in the TDP say that the party leadership is worried that some leaders might take the B forms from the party and then resign to defect into the TDP. This would be a huge loss of face for the party. So, the party leadership is waiting till the final moments to issue the B forms. Not just in Srikakulam, even in other districts, similar stories are unfolding. Stalwarts like KE Krishna Murthy, Karanam Balaram, Yamini Bala and others have resigned from the TDP and have joined the YSRCP.
What is more worrisome for the TDP is that the anti-TDP mood among the voters is still strong and the people are not willing to vote for the TDP this time too. As a result, the party is facing an uphill task.
