Congress Government which ruled the United AP for a decade sanctioned altogether 70 SEZs in Telangana alone. Out of them, Only 30 were operational and few others are semi-functional. Now, TRS Government is planning the SEZ status to thousands of acres which were non-functional.
Telangana Government identified 20 SEZs, which failed to commence operations, covering about 12,000 acres in its first phase. In fact, Most of these SEZs are sanctioned to Deccan Infrastructure and Land Holdings Ltd floated by YSR Government for cashing in on the real boom. State Government has written to the Centre seeking cancellation of these 20 SEZs.
Industries Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said there is vast demand for vacant land around Hyderabad after Telangana Government announced its new Industrial Policy. He added, 'Soon after the cancellation of SEZ status to non-functional government land, New Industries will be invited to set up their units in these areas'.
