Now Eating at Restaurants gets Cheaper

The GST Council made some big changes to the Tax Slabs on various items Today. While 50 items continue to remain in the highest tax slab of 28 percent, As many as 178 other items have been moved to the 18/12/5 percent brackets. Today's Decisions by GST Council will put a burden of Rs 20,000 crore on the centre in this financial year. These changes will apply from November 15th onwards.

Now, Dining Out has become cheaper after it's been switched to 5 percent tax slab from existing 18 percent bracket. Jokes by Netizens and Filmmakers on high tax being collected at AC Restaurants might have prompted the Centre to take this move. From now, Only Dining Out at Restaurants in Luxury Hotels will attract more tax.

Tax on Daily Use items such as deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, after-shave lotion, shaving cream, shoe polish, chocolate, nutritious drinks and chewing gum have been lowered.

Opposition Parties claimed Centre brought down the taxes because of the pressure exerted by them and severe criticism from public. Some Leaders even commented that this move is intended to appease the traders in Gujarat ahead of Assembly Polls.
