To promote renewable energy consumption, govt launches Gram Ujala programme
In a bid to promote renewable energy consumption, the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Gram Ujala programme. Under the programme, LED bulbs will be offered to rural areas at Rs 10 per piece.
The LED bulbs will be offered to the rural areas in a phased manner. As a pilot project, the scheme will be started across the villages of Aarah (Bihar), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Vijaywada (Andhra Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra), and in western Gujarat.
Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd is manufacturing the LED bulbs that come in two variants- 7-watt and 12-watt.
These LED bulbs will come with a warranty of three years. The beneficiaries can exchange up to five bulbs maximum if the bulbs they purchase won't work.
The LED bulbs consume less energy compared to the incandescent bulbs and they are also high in efficiency and power they emit. These bulbs also last longer compared to other bulbs.
