Has the ruling TRS in Telangana miscalculated the power of Modi? Its plans to divert the attention from the parade grounds meeting appear to have failed completely. Going by the media coverage, the event of the BJP clearly got more eyeballs and occupied more space in terms of the media coverage.
The ruling TRS has planned massive protests across the north Telangana's coal belt protesting against the reported auctioning of the coal mine quarries of Singareni collieries. All the TRS biggies were asked to attend the protests which were held in places like Bhupalapalli, Ramagundam, Singareni, Bellampalli and Manuguru.
As a result, all the leaders and the party focus was in the coal belt, which is a limited geographical area accounting for some 15 assembly seats, while the BJP hogged the limelight talking about the dynastic rule of the TRS. Also, the TV channels found it difficult to air the BRS programmes due to distance and connectivity related issues.
The dharnas were covered only sparingly, while all the news channels gave complete live coverage of the prime minister's programme and his other itinerary. Thus, the BRS has practically lost the initiative. It was a totally wrong idea to organize the programme in coal belt, which does not resonate with the whole state.
