Union Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan made some sensational comments on the women devotees entering the holy shrine by calling them as urban Naxals. Talking about the women's entry in the temple, he said Kerala’s mood is on protecting Sabarimala and those who are trying to enter the holy shrine don’t know about the deity.

"The people who are going to temple now, are urban Naxals, anarchists and atheists. I don't think they are devotees. They want to prove that 'we have gone to Sabrimala Temple.' Whether they are really devotees, it should be examined," he said.

He also added that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government of Kerala is determined to protect the traditions of Sabarimala. "The Supreme Court is yet to take a final decision and the overall mood is that the tradition of Sabarimala should be maintained. The Kerala government is taking steps keeping that in mind and is acting under this pressure," he added.

Citing the arrival of devotees to the holy shrine as the temple will be open for a two-month-long festival season, he said they are coming here without any fear.

Earlier, the five-bench judge headed by Ranjan Gogoi has referred this case to seven bench judges with a 3: 2 margin.

The apex court has said that the right to worship by an individual cannot outweigh the rights of a religious group.
