When the unfortunate lynching of Sadhus happened at Palghar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah immediately called up Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and enquired about the incident. Meanwhile, the BJP mounted a massive campaign to blame the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government for the lynching and demanded action against those involved in the lynching.
Even as the Palghar incident is receding to the background, two Sadhus were killed right inside a temple in UP's Bulandshaher. Though this was not a lynching incident and no mob was involved in the attack, the Shiv Sena was quick to grab the issue. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray called up UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and "expressed concern" at the incident. He also sought an end to such attacks. While it's a no brainer that Uddhav has called up Yogi only to pay the latter back in the same coin, Uddhav forgot that he has no jurisdiction in UP. Also, it was Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah who called him. Amit Shah not only has the jurisdiction, but also the authority to seek an explanation on a law and order related issue from the state government. But, in his eagerness to play to the gallery, Uddhav forgot that he has no authority over UP.
Interestingly, till recently, both Uddhav and Yogi were on the same side. They were part of the NDA. It is only recently that Shiv Sena parted company of the BJP and joined hands with the Congress and the NCP to form the government in Maharashtra.
