Taking a cue from the union government which had reduced the excise prices on petrol and prices giving a big relief for the citizens in the country, a few state governments have reduced the Value-added tax (VAT) resulting in a cut short in the fuel prices. As a result, the petrol and diesel prices were reduced by more than 10-12 rupees. From the 'Diwali' festival, the reduced prices came into effect.
After a few states announced the reduction of VAT on fuel, the focus had now shifted towards the Telugu states, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Telugu states duo is yet to make a big announcement on this.

Though critics feel that the union government announced the slash on the fuel prices after the by-poll result in a few states and to pacify the citizens who are against the BJP ruled Centre for the daily growth in the fuel prices, people are happy that at least they have now decided to reduce the fuel prices.
Seeing other states coming forward to announce a reduction of VAT on fuel, people in Telugu states are hoping that the governments in the respective states will take the footsteps of other states.
Looking at the political aspect of fuel prices, Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and Telangana Rashtra Samithi(TRS) went all guns open against each other on the same issue during the high intense campaign for the recent Huzurabad by-elections. While TRS attacked BJP on the soaring fuel prices, the BJP hit back saying that if TRS wants to reduce the prices, then it should reduce the VAT.
