Why Did TDP Contest From Huzurnagar?

Even the most diehard of the TDP supporters are now questioning the rationale behind the TDP putting up a candidate in the Huzurnagar bypolls in Telangana. Why did the TDP put up a candidate for the bypoll, when it did not contest the Lok Sabha polls? The TDP opted out of the Lok Sabha polls in Telangana after the drubbing it received in the Telangana assembly polls of 2018. In 2018, the TDP tied up with its arch rival - the Congress and fought the elections. It hoped to get the settler vote in a big way,but ended up winning just two MLA seats. Both the MLAs have since joined the TRS.

In fact, it had tried to pit even NTR's grand daughter and Harikrishna's daughter Suhasini from settler-dominated Kukatpally constituency. Suhasini lost so badly that it was seen as a clear sign that the TDP has no place in Telangana. That being the case, why did the TDP contest Huzurnagar bypoll, which does not improve its fortunes whatever the outcome? The TDP banked on 50000 settler votes, including 11000 Kamma votes, which it felt would fall into its lap like the ripe apples. But, its candidate Chava Kiranmayee got just 1827 votes. It was way behind an independent and a BJP candidate. Thus it stood in the fifth position.

After this disastrous result, it is clear that Chandrababu Naidu has actually sounded the death knell of the TDP in Telangana. Now, it is likely that the party will completely lapse into the oblivion.
